Our beliefs

What We Believe

East Memorial is a Baptist church in Prattville, Alabama, and everything here is centered around Scripture. You’ll find expository preaching — the sermon says what the passage says, and the text sets the agenda. We hold to the authority and sufficiency of Scripture, a high view of God’s sovereignty, and worship chosen for its biblical content. We take the whole Bible as it is written.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, authoritative, and sufficient Word of God and our final authority for faith and life.

God

We believe in one true and living God, eternally existing in three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—equal in deity and worthy of all worship and glory.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died as a substitutionary sacrifice for sinners, rose bodily from the dead, ascended to heaven, and will personally return.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, gives new life to those who believe, indwells every believer, and empowers God's people for holiness, service, and faithful witness.

Man & Sin

We believe every person is created in the image of God, yet because of the fall, all people are sinners by nature and choice and are unable to reconcile themselves to God.

Salvation

We believe salvation is entirely a work of God's grace and is received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. God sovereignly saves sinners, granting repentance and faith, and all whom He saves are secure in Christ.

The Church

We believe the church is composed of all who have been redeemed by Christ. The local church exists to glorify God through worship, the preaching and teaching of His Word, fellowship, discipleship, and the proclamation of the gospel.

Baptism & the Lord's Supper

We believe baptism by immersion is the public testimony of those who have trusted in Christ, and the Lord's Supper is a remembrance and proclamation of Christ's saving work.

Christian Life

We believe those who have been saved by grace are called to pursue holiness, grow in Christlikeness, love one another, serve the church, and faithfully make Christ known.

Last Things

We believe Jesus Christ will personally and bodily return, the dead will be raised, all people will face final judgment, the redeemed will enjoy eternal life with Christ, and the lost will experience eternal punishment.
