Worship & Music
Singing theologically rich songs for the purpose of glorifying the Lord.
Our Philosophy of Music Ministry
Here at East Memorial Baptist Church, our desire is not simply to sing songs that feel good or sound good. We desire to sing songs that are rich in biblical truth, deep in doctrine, and meaningful in their application to our lives.
We believe that the songs we sing should do more than simply encourage us in the moment. They should challenge us to examine our personal walk with Christ, remind us of who God is and what He has done for us, and encourage us to live faithfully for Him. Our desire is for the music we sing to prepare the hearts and minds of our congregation for the preaching of God’s Word week in and week out.
We want to sing songs that cause us to think, songs that teach us truth, songs that remind us of the Gospel, and songs that challenge us to live out our faith as we walk through this life.
Our philosophy of music—and, really, our entire worship service—is modeled in large part after the instruction we find in Colossians 3:16:
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16
Our goal is to allow the Word of Christ to dwell richly among us through the songs we sing. We want our congregation not only to sing, but to understand what they are singing and allow those truths to shape the way they think, worship, and live.
